Pakistani Shia scholar arrested and missing in Saudi Arabia

Pakistani Shia religious scholar has been arrested in Saudi Arabia and is now missing.

Pakistani Shia religious scholar Allama Ghulam Hasnain Vajdani has been arrested in Saudi Arabia and is now missing.

His family and Shia community scholars have appealed to the Government of Pakistan, saying that he was arrested without any reason and must be released immediately and brought back to the country.

They have warned that if swift action is not taken, a strong protest will be held outside the Saudi embassy in Pakistan.

Allama Ghulam Hasnain Vajdani hails from the Nagar Khas area of Gilgit-Baltistan and resides in Quetta. He had gone to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

On April 19, 2025, while at Taif Airport, he was arrested by Saudi authorities without any explanation and taken to an unknown location. Since then, 28 days have passed, but there has been no information about his whereabouts.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistani Embassy in Saudi Arabia have so far failed to take any concrete steps for his release.

It is also noteworthy that three years ago, he was also unjustly arrested by Pakistan's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) from a street in Quetta while he was with his family.

Now, his family and members of the community have once again urged the Government of Pakistan to secure his immediate release. Otherwise, they have announced plans for a large protest outside the Saudi embassy.
